Superstitions

superstitions

For some, luck depends on superstition. Thus, they try to attract it through beliefs, rituals or charms. These are some curious superstitions, beliefs, rituals or charms regarding participation in the lotteries. The most superstitious habits, good luck charms or facts when participating in lotteries:

  • What superstitious person has not been suspicious of a black cat? Well, in the case of the lottery, passing a décimo (tenth of a ticket) or lottery ticket over the back of a black cat can bring good luck, according to some superstitious individuals. Passing a décimo over the belly of a pregnant woman or the back of a hunchback also appears to bring good luck. But not only that, there are people who believe that lighting candles of different colours, such as white, gold, etc., will attract good luck.

  • Many of these superstitions are related to the moment when the décimo or tickets are bought. From entering the lottery office with your left foot, including those who enter the lottery office from the left on odd days and from the right on even days, to those who want their lottery ticket seller to give them the ticket with their right hand.

  • Lovers of mystic sciences or witchcraft believe that everyone has personal numbers with which to try their luck with the lotteries. A very curious element of superstition is related to the â¿¿Personal Destiny Numbers'. This belief in numerology states that if a person adds the numbers of their date of birth, they will obtain their lucky number. (For example. A person who was born on 1 of 1 of 1971 would add the numbers together: 1+1+1+9+7+1=20 -> 2+0=2 -> 2 would be that person's lucky number).

  • But to many, that number is not enough. Thus, they believe that when it comes time to play the lottery, relevant dates in their lives (birthday, wedding, etc.) can bring them luck. Historical dates are also relevant for the superstitious who believe that chance is directly related to history. And there are those who go even further and believe that dreams can reveal numbers that give them the key to a winning combination.

  • Some of the more widespread superstitions include carrying a good luck charm when one needs luck. From the classic personal medallion, or a wooden stick, to the typical four-leaf clover kept in one's wallet. Or even a couple of mistletoe and bay leaves, which should be replaced when they lose their colour, because they lose their good luck value at the same time. Rabbit feet and horseshoes are also very well-known. And what about the famous small pictures of saints that bring some people such good luck. Also very curious is the superstitious tradition that believes that those who take a pair of dice with them when they participate in games of chance increase their probability of getting a good result, since it is a symbol of good luck. And there are those who also use them to select the numbers for their picks.

  • As regards good luck charms, metals also are used by some people when they participate in lotteries or wagers. The belief is that to buy a lottery ticket, one must carry a tin object; to place horse racing bets, copper; and for sports bets, silver.
