3DSecure is a system which guarantees the security of payments based on each transaction being authorised by the bank that issued the credit card. It is an authentication technology which uses Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption and a plug-in in the company server which informs and verifies users for authentication purposes during an online purchase. Similarly, it protects the card payment information during its online transmission.
Using this protocol provides you with the guarantee that noone other than you can use your credit cards to make online payments when using your Safe E-commerce code.
Also, most banks allow you to check that it really is your bank that is asking for your details, as the screen on which you enter your code also displays your secret sentence (which only your own bank knows).
You can obtain your secret code from the bank or building society that issued your card. If you are an existing electronic banking customer, in most cases you will be able to request it straight from your bank.
You will be able to use your card in the same manner as you have done to date, in shops and regular ATM machines, while also being able to shop online with the same card and a full guarantee, as though you were physically on the premises. You will always be able to make secure payments in any European online stores that bear the distinctive MasterCard SecureCode and Verified by Visa.
This service is completely free of charge.
